Enlarged Prostate

You indicated that you either have a history with or are concerned about an enlarged prostate gland. It's fairly common for men in their mid-40s to experience prostate growth, which compresses the urethra and partially blocks the flow of urine. While not all men who experience an enlarged prostate report difficulty urinating, symptoms tend to worsen over time. Depending on your symptoms, treatment may include medication, surgery, or therapy.

Changes you can make to your lifestyle include:

  • Reducing your intake of substances that can irritate your prostate, including alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and spicy foods
  • Taking saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), which is known to shrink the gland
  • Taking zinc picolinate daily
